TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas is satisfied with how the first month of the 2025 midterm elections’ campaign season went by.
At the press briefing here on Friday, Alyansa’s campaign manager Toby Tiangco said they are considering the first month as a guide in what they have to adjust moving forward.
The alliance is also looking at the results of legitimate election surveys.
“Nakaka-isang buwan na tayo kaya napakagandang opportunity ito at itutuloy-tuloy lang namin dahil nakita naman nating maganda ang tinatakbo ng kampanya,” Tiangco said.
(We have gone through a month of campaigning so it is a very good opportunity and we will just go on because we see that the campaign is doing good.)
“‘Yan po ang maganda sa legitimate surveys,” Tiangco noted.
(That is the benefit of legitimate surveys.)
“Nakikita po natin kung anong areas ang dapat na i-improve para mas gumanda po at mas marami sa ating mga kandidato ang makapasok doon sa Magic 12,” he said.
(We can see what areas we need to improve on so that more of our candidates will be able to enter the Magic 12.)
According to Tiangco, the adjustments are not only up to him, but will be a collegial decision of the entire senatorial slate.
“Kung ano po ‘yung necessary adjustments, of course. It’s not only up to me,” the campaign manager said.
(The possible necessary adjustments, of course. It’s not only up to me.)
“I also consult our candidates kung ano sa tingin nila ‘yung mas mabuti para mas malaman ng ating mga kababayan ‘yung plataporma ng bawat kandidato,” he explained.
(I also consult our candidates regarding what they think will be better for us so that people will better know the platform of each candidate.)
“Kami po ay kumpiyansa na kung malalaman ‘yung plataporma ng bawat kandidato ay more than qualified po ‘yung ating mga kandidato,” he added.
(We are confident that if people will know each candidate’s platform, they will know that our candidates are more qualified [than other aspirants.])
Duterte’s arrest
During the same briefing, Tiangco was asked if former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest last Tuesday will have any impact in their campaign.
In response, Tiangco said there should be no impact because the focus of candidates will be on finding ways to solve problems of the country.
“Ang Alyansa ay nananatiling nakatutok doon sa araw-araw na mga suliranin ng ating mga kababayan tulad ng trabaho, pangkabuhayan. So ‘yun po ang pinapaliwanag ng Alyansa, at ‘yun po ang tinututukan natin,” he said.
(The Alyansa remains focused on solving the daily problems of our fellow Filipinos like jobs, livelihood, so that’s where Alyansa is putting its attention.)
