Make Abby Binay QC’s number one senator, Belmonte tells residents
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte in a huddle with senatorial aspirant and Makati City Mayor Abby Binay
Quezon City residents and city officials led by Mayor Joy Belmonte on Monday rolled out the red carpet for senatorial candidate and Makati City Mayor Abby Binay during her visit to Quezon City Hall.
Belmonte asked her constituents to make Binay the number one senator in Quezon City, expressing confidence in Binay’s experience and capability as a lawyer, a congresswoman, and mayor.
In her message to over 1,500 women participants in the Kababaihan Dance Competition at Quezon City Hall, Binay underscored the multiple roles of women that make each one of them a “superwoman” who can even do better than men.
She cited the challenges hurdled by women mayors like Belmonte and herself to show that balancing career with family life can be done.
“Bilang babae, napakahirap pong maging mayor dahil higit sa pagiging mayor, kami po ay nanay din. Kami po ay asawa rin…Kailangan pang bumili ng pagkain paguwi ng bahay. Kailangang mag-grocery. Kailangang alagaan ang iyong asawa,” Binay said.
(As a woman, being a mayor is incredibly challenging because beyond being a leader, we are also mothers. We are also wives… We still have to buy food on the way home. We have to do the grocery shopping. We have to take care of our husbands.)
Binay also vowed to push for the grant of regular salaries to barangay officials and employees instead of honoraria and security of tenure for trained barangay health workers.
Binay was also warmly greeted by city officials and some 2,000 members of various civil society organizations in Quezon City. She reiterated her advocacies for free maintenance medicines and the inclusion of preventive healthcare in PhilHealth coverage.
She also joined a meeting with some 1,000 urban farmers where she lauded the Quezon City government for its continuing support for urban farming to optimize the city’s agricultural lands, citing its importance for food security.
She also reassured them of Makati’s readiness to help in any way possible.
“Tatandaan ho ninyo, dahil tayo ay magkapit bahay, makakaasa at makakaasa po kayo palagi. Kung kailangan niyo po ng tulong, kung ano man, dahil tayo po ay isang pamilya sa Metro Manila,” she said.
(Always remember, because we are neighbors, you can always count on us. If you ever need help, in any way, we are one family here in Metro Manila.)
