MANILA, Philippines — The name of former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson is not included on the midterm election ballots, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) insisted on Friday.
The poll made the clarification after Singson posted a “breaking news” video on his Facebook account.
“I have something to report to you. I did not withdraw,” a laughing Singson could be heard saying in Filipino in the 15-second video.
The video led some of his Facebook supporters to believe he was still gunning for a Senate seat.
The video was shown to Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia in an ambush interview, to which he said: “As far as the Comelec is concerned, his certificate of candidacy is withdrawn.”

“The name of former governor Chavit Singson is no longer in the ballots,” he also said, adding that the Comelec has already released a new resolution enumerating the number of senatorial candidates without Singson’s name.
Singson personally filed his certificate of withdrawal on Jan. 16 due to health issues.
