Solo Parents Partylist calls for disqualification of Pasig House bet Sia

Solo Parents Partylist stands firm in urging Comelec to disqualify lawyer Ian Sia
MANILA, Philippines – The Solo Parents Partylist has urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disqualify lawyer Christian Sia from running for the lone district of Pasig City in the upcoming 2025 elections. The partylist alleges that Sia’s candidacy should be invalidated due to his misogynistic and discriminatory remarks that undermine his qualifications to serve the people of Pasig, particularly solo parents.
In a statement released earlier today, the Solo Parents Partylist condemned Sia for making “offensive and harmful” statements that they argue are not only deeply disrespectful to solo parents but also detrimental to the values of equality and inclusivity that the country strives to uphold. No “freedom of speech” should be used as an excuse to disgrace the vulnerable sector, they added.
“Statements that demean solo parents and perpetuate misogyny have no place in Philippine politics, especially from someone seeking to represent the diverse and vibrant communities of Pasig City,” said the partylist’s spokesperson Dr. Roselle Teodosio.
The Partylist asserts that even the softest delivery of speech could undermine the rights of the vulnerable sector if made out of whim. Sia’s statements perpetuate harmful stereotypes about solo parents, undermining their contributions to society and reinforcing gender-based discrimination, where such views violate the principles of inclusivity and respect for all citizens—essential for anyone seeking a seat in public office.
The Solo Parents Partylist stressed that their call for Sia’s disqualification is not just about his personal views but also about ensuring that candidates who run for office embody the values of respect, equality, and fairness.
The final decision on the Election Offense Case filed by the Partylist against Sia rests with the Comelec, with many anticipating a ruling this week.
