MANILA, Philippines — Lakas-CMD’s renewed commitment to back Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidates will be a major boost to the slate as the election nears.
This optimism was expressed by the alliance’s campaign manager and Navotas City Lone District Rep. Toby Tiangco on Wednesday.
In a statement, Tiangco thanked Lakas-CMD President and House of Representatives Speaker Martin Romualdez for calling on his party-mates to support the Alyansa.
“We are deeply grateful to Speaker Romualdez and the entire Lakas-CMD for their trust and commitment,” Tiangco said.
“Their support gives our campaign the strength and organization needed to reach more voters across the country,” he noted.
On Tuesday, during a meeting held in Malacañang, Romualdez said Lakas-CMD members should fully back the alliance.
“Dapat talaga diretso tayo dito sa Alyansa. No ifs and buts about it. Ito talaga ang hinihingi ko sa inyo,” he asked other Lakas party members.
(We should support the Alyansa straight. No ifs and buts about it. This is what I am asking from you.)
Alyansa is a five-party team which includes Lakas-CMD, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), the National Unity Party (NUP), and Nacionalista Party (NP).
Eleven of the twelve senatorial candidates of the alliance were present during the Lakas-CMD meeting in the Palace.
As a dominant party, Lakas-CMD has over 6,100 candidates running in the 2025 midterm polls.
While different surveys have indicated that Alyansa members dominate the surveys, there have been concerns about the group’s composition.
It lost Senator Imee Marcos — the president’s sister.
She left the group due to the administration’s allegedly harsh treatment of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
