Solo Parents party-list gains support among OFWs in key countries

The Solo Parents Party-list is showing a surge in support from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) across various countries, as the party-list ramps up its advocacy for the rights and welfare of solo parents—an issue resonating strongly with many Filipinos working abroad.
In recent months, OFW solo parents in countries such as Dubai, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore have shown their support to the party-list. The party-list, which aims to represent solo mothers and fathers in the House of Representatives, has been actively engaging with OFWs through discussions, digital campaigns, and social media outreach.
The party-list’s growing appeal abroad signals a significant shift in overseas voter sentiment. Filipino communities in the Middle East and Asia have begun organizing independently to show their support.

“Our visibility is growing not just in the Philippines, but across Filipino communities abroad,” said Dr. Roselle Teodosio, the Partylist’s spokesperson. “OFWs are telling us they want a stronger voice for solo parents in Congress—wherever in the world they may be as their stories reflect the everyday struggles and sacrifices solo parents make—not only locally but globally”, she added.
Many OFWs shared having left their children in the care of relatives while they work abroad. Others are separated, widowed, or raising children on their own in foreign countries. For them, the Solo Parents party-list’s advocacies—which includes expanded government benefits, and accessible childcare and livelihood programs—has become increasingly relevant.
As the 2025 campaign season unfolds, the Solo Parents party-list aims to solidify its presence among OFWs through ongoing discussions and by addressing policy gaps specific to solo parent OFWs.
“The fight for solo parents knows no borders,” Dr. Teodosio said. “As long as there are Filipinos raising children on their own, we want to be their voice in Congress.”
