Comelec warns people of fake news about the date of elections

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has cautioned the public about fake news that claimed this year’s polls was moved to an earlier date.

In a Facebook post, Comelec refuted the claim that the elections will be held on May 10 instead of May 12.

“It’s FAKE NEWS and graphics about the elections being moved to May 10, 2025. This did not come from the Commission on Elections, and not posted on official and verified social media channels of the Comelec),” it read on Filipino.

The commission reiterated that the national and local elections will be held on May 12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Comelec also reminded voters that senior citizens, persons with disability, and pregnant individuals will have early voting hours from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.

“We are reminding all that spreading false and alarming information is an election offense under the Section 261(z)(11) of the Omnibus Election Code,” it said.
