Village councilor shot dead in Bohol on eve of midterm polls
TAGBILARAN CITY — A village councilor in the hinterlands of Bohol province was shot dead on the eve of the May 12 midterm elections.
Police identified the victim as Ernesto Gacas of Barangay Matin-ao, Sierra Bullones town.
Witnesses told the police that past 8 p.m. Sunday, Gacas had a heated argument with his neighbor, identified as David Digal, reportedly over politics. Digal allegedly shot Gacas in the chest and then fled.
Gacas was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
He was a known supporter of former Mayor Simplicio Maestrado, who is running against incumbent Mayor Michael Doria.
Sierra Bullones police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
