MANILA, Philippines — Former President and incumbent Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday underscored the importance of participating in elections, saying it is a fundamental act in a democracy.
“That’s what we do in democracy — we elect our constituents,” Arroyo said in a brief interview, emphasizing the value of voting as both a right and a civic duty.
Arroyo, who is seeking reelection and running unopposed, cast her vote as voter No. 78 at Precinct 0001A in San Nicolas 2 Elementary School in Lubao, Pampanga.
With the election season underway, she issued a simple but strong message to Filipino voters: “Go out and vote. Our voting participation rate should be high.” With Tonette Orejas, Inquirer Central Luzon Bureau
