Lanao del Sur court orders delisting of ‘fake voters’

MARAWI CITY — A candidate for a municipal council seat of Bayang town, Lanao del Sur and his brother were killed in an attack by still unidentified gunmen on Monday morning.

Capt. Edmundo R. Nabor, Bayang police chief, identified the first fatality as Afganie Balt Taha, 38, who was seeking a seat in the municipal council.

The second fatality is Walid Balt Taha, 35, village chief of Barangay Sumbag in Bayang.

Nabor said the victims were walking toward Mauyag Papandayan National High School to cast their votes when slain by unidentified gunmen at about 8 a.m. in Barangay Rinabor, Bayang town.

Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds in various parts of their bodies.

Residents rushed the victims to a hospital in Binidayan town where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Pursuit operation for the assailants is ongoing in Bayang and nearby municipalities by police and Army troops./apl
