PPCRV: We see 79.9% votes, Comelec sees 98% — what’s going on?

MANILA, Philippines — Poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has zero eyes on 18 percent of votes so far transmitted to the Commission on Elections’  transparency servers.

Speaking to reporters in a press conference on Tuesday, PPCRV spokesperson Ana Singson raised her concern about why the Comelec’s dashboard shows that it has access to 98 percent of transmissions while PPCRV and other poll watchdogs are only seeing 79 percent.

“We’re all at 79.9 percent transmission and I’m very happy that we’re aligning on that… but if you look at the Comelec, so we’re all seeing 79.9 percent, if you look at the Comelec dashboard and their website, they already have eyes on 98 percent of the transmissions, but we have eyes only on the 79.9 [percent]. Where is the 18 percent that we’re not seeing?” asked Singson.

She said she’s certain that Comelec has an explanation, given the leadership and transparency they have shown so far.

“We have faith and we have strong hope that they are going to show that to us,” Singson.

But on the other hand, she lamented how the scenario felt like a “deja vu” or flashback from 2013.

“There was this issue when, after one data dump, there was a long time when we didn’t get any data. And also in 2013, there was a time when we could only see just a fraction of what Comelec had already transmitted,” said Singson.

“We would like to understand the issue and we would like, please, to have eyes on that balance,” she added. /das/abc
