Velascos of Marinduque lose to political opponents

LUCENA CITY — The father and son, Presbitero and Lord Allan Velasco, both political giants in the island province of Marinduque, lost their grip in local politics in the just-concluded local elections.

This scenario is based on partial and unofficial results sourced from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Media Server (INQ VotePH2025).

With 99 percent of the election returns transmitted as of 1:42 p.m. on Tuesday (May 13), Mel Go (PDP-Laban) garnered 64,987 votes while Lord Allan (NPC) is closely behind with 64,734 in the governorship race.

The elder Velasco, a retired Supreme Court justice, received 55,689 votes for the race in the lone congressional post.

He was defeated by Rey Salvacion (Independent) who got 72,464 votes.

Presbitero, the former governor, and Lord Allan, a former member and speaker of the House of Representatives, switched places in this year’s local elections after the son ended his three-year term in Congress.

On the other hand, Romulo Bacorro Jr. (Independent) won the vice governorship with 74,853 votes against incumbent Lyn Angeles who garnered 51,044 votes.
