Village chief is Bamban mayor after Guo; Angeles-Yap clans win in Tarlac

TARLAC CITY,  Philippines — Joey Salting was proclaimed mayor of Bamban town after securing a landslide victory, officially replacing dismissed mayor Alice Guo.

Salting, who previously lost to Guo in the 2022 mayoral race, is currently the barangay captain of Anupul.

Across Tarlac province, the political families of Angeles and Yap dominated the local elections.

Incumbent Tarlac City Mayor Cristy Angeles was elected as the new representative of the province’s 2nd congressional district, defeating former governor and congressman Victor Yap.

In turn, incumbent Governor Susan Yap was proclaimed Tarlac City mayor, winning over Angeles’ husband, Victor Angeles, a contractor affiliated with Northern Builders.

Cristy Angeles’ daughter, incumbent councilor KT Angeles-Go, secured the position of Tarlac City vice mayor.

Meanwhile, Susan Yap’s son, Christian Yap, won the gubernatorial race, keeping the post within the Yap family. Moncada Mayor Estelita Aquino was proclaimed as the new vice governor.

In Capas town, incumbent Mayor Atty. Roseller “Boots” Rodriguez and his running mate Alex Espinosa were re-elected as mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

In San Manuel, incumbent Mayor Donya Tesoro and her brother, incumbent Vice Mayor Atty. Benjamin Tesoro, were both proclaimed winners in their respective re-election bids.

Paniqui marked a milestone with Kat Roxas becoming the town’s first female mayor. Her running mate and cousin, Jake Roxas, was also elected vice mayor. The Roxas cousins faced off against fellow family members, outgoing Vice Mayor Aida Bien Roxas and her brother Ian Roxas, who ran for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Actor Arron Villaflor was among the four board members elected from Tarlac’s second district. /jpv
