Rep. Tupas concedes to Debuque in Iloilo vice gubernatorial race

ILOILO CITY — Rep. Raul “Boboy” Tupas has publicly acknowledged his defeat to outgoing Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque in the race for vice governor of Iloilo.

Posting on his official social media page, Tupas extended his congratulations to Debuque and urged his supporters to accept the outcome of the polls, saying the results reflect the democratic choice of the Ilonggos.

“As I thank all of my allies and supporters, I want to emphasize that the result is a normal outcome of the democratic process through elections. The people have made their choice and that must be respected,” he wrote.

The fifth district congressman called on the public to now rally behind the incoming leaders, Debuque and reelected Go. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr., so they can fulfill their duties for the province.

“No matter how challenging our campaign journey was, we strived to promote a good and respectful contest for all — allies and opponents alike. Now that the results are clear, I call on everyone to support Vice Governor-elect Lee Ann Debuque and Gov. Toto Defensor so they can do what’s right for our province,” Tupas said.

As of 1:57 p.m. Tuesday, Commission on Elections data shows that Debuque secured 545,480 votes while Tupas garnered 497,972.

Tupas’ graceful concession, paired with a sincere appeal for unity, caps off one of Iloilo’s most closely watched local races in the 2025 midterm elections.
