PNP to replace investigators of blank-walled ERIs

Philippine National Police
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will replace investigators whose cases of election-related incidents (ERIs) are stalled.
As of Monday, data from the PNP Public Information Office (PIO) showed that the police validated 100 ERIs, of which 55 were still under investigation.
“If there’s no progress and we see it stopped, then we have to remove and replace with new investigators. What we want is for it to be continuous, with progress,” PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, speaking in Filipino, said in an interview with reporters at Camp Crame on Wednesday.
When asked if he had a deadline for investigators, Marbil only said it “depended on how the cases would be solved.”

In a previous statement a week after the 2025 national and local elections, Marbil urged PNP units to fast-track the resolution of ERIs.
“We owe it to the public to pursue these cases with the urgency they deserve. The peaceful conduct of the 2025 elections must be complemented by a justice system that works swiftly and effectively,” Marbil said in the statement.
According to the PNP PIO data, the 100 validated ERIs included 27 deaths and 62 injuries. / MR
