MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has ruled out running for any position in 2028.
Sotto made the remark on Monday during the turnover ceremony for incoming Pasig officials elected to serve from 2025 to 2028.
In his speech, Sotto said, “[in] 2028, I will not run. I am already telling you this now. That’s why I am free to do what I think is right.”
He did not elaborate further.
He is now serving his third and last term as the local chief executive of the city.
Sotto’s party, “Giting ng Pasig,” garnered a commanding lead in the local elections.
All its candidates for vice mayor, representative, and 12 of its city council bets, or six each for the first and second districts, won in the midterm polls.
Sotto dominated the mayoralty race, defeating his opponent Sara Discaya.
He secured 351,392 votes, according to Comelec’s official tally.
His rival, Discaya, only got 29,591 votes. /apl/abc
