MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Navy on Tuesday said the designation of a maritime affairs spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) remains in line with the government’s thrust “one message, many voices.”

Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, made this remark on DFA maritime affairs spokesperson Rogelio Villanueva Jr.

Trinidad welcomed Villanueva’s designation, saying in a regular press briefing: “We welcome him to the fold of government spokespersons, and we wish him all the best.”

“We follow the dictum that ‘one message, many voices’,” Trinidad also said. “So long as the message is the same, it’s more effective that way.”

The designation of Villanueva was only made public on Monday, but Trinidad said he joined the National Maritime Council meeting on Friday.

“We have a good working relationship with him and with the other government spokespersons,” Trinidad said.

Concurrently, Villanueva is the DFA’s acting deputy assistant secretary of the Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office. /mr
