Raffy Tulfo: No presidential or VP bid 'for now and in the future'
Sen. Raffy Tulfo

MANILA, Philippines — Despite calls from the private sector, Sen. Raffy Tulfo on Monday said he has no plans to run for president or vice president now or in the future.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tulfo said he wants to remain “low-key” as a senator fulfilling his duties.

“I don’t want to answer that because I have no plans—today or in the future. I’m happy here in the Senate; I can do a lot. For me, I’m happy here. So why would I go into something that will give me a headache?” Tulfo said in Filipino.

“I am firm in my stand that now and in the future, I will not run,” he added.

Earlier, Tulfo’s brother, Sen. Erwin Tulfo, also said he would not run for higher office in the next national elections, adding that he only wants to seek reelection.

“Our family doesn’t want any trouble. That’s why Sen. Raffy also wants to run only for reelection in the Senate. As for me, we’ve discussed it. I don’t have plans to run for higher office. It’s really tough. I mean, you feel for your family. There are bashers, people who are angry at you, even lawsuits, and persistent critics,” he said in Filipino. /mcm
