Comelec: 101 BARMM district representative bets file COCs

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 101 aspirants for the position of district representatives have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). 

The Comelec set the COC filing for the elections from May 5-7, 2026. The elections will be held on September 14, 2026 after four postponements. 

For the parliamentary elections, 40 seats will be allocated to party representatives, 32 to district representatives, and 8 to sectoral representatives.

A total of 17 aspirants filed their COCs in Basilan (four districts), 33 in Lanao del Sur (nine districts), 11 in Maguindanao del Norte (five districts), 16 in Maguindanao del Sur (five districts), 13 aspirants in Tawi-Tawi (four districts), 11 in Cotabato (three districts) and seven aspirants in Special Geographic Area (SGA) (two districts).

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said on Thursday that the Comelec en banc is set to approve the official list of candidates and political parties by next Wednesday, provided they comply with all requirements.

The Comelec will publish the COCs and certificates of nomination and acceptance by next Friday.

Garcia also said that those facing disqualification cases will still be included in the official list of candidates as long as the Comelec has not yet issued a final decision on their disqualification cases. 

He added that if a candidate is officially disqualified from running in the elections and their name is already printed on the ballots, the poll body will consider their votes as stray.  /gsg
