CEBU CITY (Feb. 25) — The majority of the faculty of one of the country’s biggest and oldest Catholic universities have thrown their support behind the “rightful” claim to the presidency and vice presidency of Ms. Cory Aquino and Salvador Laurel.

A manifesto of indignation signed by president Adelaida B. Palomar and at least 200 of a total of 389 college tutors of the College Faculty Association of the SVD-run University of San Carlos, condemned in the harshet terms the conduct of the last elections and the undue haste in the proclamation of winners by the KBL-dominated Batasang Pambansa.

Palomar revealed that the pressure to come up with a stand came from the ranks of the faculty themselves and that it took extensive deliberation on the part of the board of trustees of the association. The manifesto further expressed the unity of the USC faculty with the Filipino people in “the concerted effort … to exert pressure for the dismantling of a discredited regime and pave the way for a peaceful transition to a new administration.” The manifesto was also signed by Fr. Leonardo Estioco USC vice president for academic affairs. The association has not yet decided whether to call a boycott on Feb. 26.
