Quezon’s 1st female gov files COC for re-election bid in 2025 polls
LUCENA CITY — Incumbent Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan on Wednesday, October 3, filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) to seek reelection in the coming midterm elections in May 2025.
“Our team is here – Stand Up Quezon. Our service will continue. We hope for your continued support. We love you all,” Tan, the first female governor of the province, said in her public message in an interview with local journalists.
Tan was accompanied by Vice Gov. Anacleto Alcala III, who is also seeking another term, and her complete slate of provincial board members candidates.
Meanwhile, 3rd District Rep. Reynante Arogancia and 4th District Rep. Mike Tan, the governor’s son, also filed their COCs for a chance at another term in their respective positions.
Tan’s group filed their COC before the Commission on Election (Comelec) officials at the provincial capitol building in this city.
In July, Tan formed the local political party, Stand Up Quezon or “Solidarity for Transformation, Advancement, and Nationalism towards a Dynamic, United, and Progressive Quezon province to solidify her allies in the coming election.
Tan has long been a Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) member since her three-term stint as the 4th district representative in Congress.
Tan vowed that their team would continue the “innovative projects and programs” under her HEALING agenda.
HEALING refers to the “health, education, agriculture, livelihood, infrastructure, environment, tourism and good governance” agenda, which she started.
Many were surprised when her son, Doctor Keith Mikhal Tan, popularly known as “Doc Kim,” decided to run as a board member in the 2nd district.
Doc Kim has long been making his presence felt in the second district as an indication that he is set to challenge the re-election bid of incumbent 2nd District Rep. David Suarez.
Tan and Alcala are expected to win their re-election bid unopposed since no politicians in the province are expressing their desire to challenge them in the 2025 elections.
Tan, a medical doctor and former representative of the province’s fourth district, became the first woman governor of Quezon after she defeated re-electionist Danilo Suarez, father of David, in the May 2022 election.
She won in all 39 towns and two cities in Quezon, striking a severe political blow to her opponent.
Before the 2022 elections, the Suarez clan controlled the provincial government for 12 consecutive years—nine under David’s governorship and three under Danilo’s.
