57 COCs for senator, 53 CONAs lodged on last day of candidacy filing

 Candidacy filing ends; 57 COCs for senator, 53 party-list CONAs lodged

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 57 senatorial aspirants filed their certificate of candidacy (COCs) while 53 certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONAs) for party-lists were filed on Tuesday, the last day of the candidacy filing period for the 2025 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

The COCs and CONAs filed on the last day of filing were the most for a day since the filing period began on October 1.

Comelec said that a total of 184 COCs for senators and 190 CONAs for party-lists were lodged during the COC filing period from October 1-8 at the Manila Hotel Tent City.

“No substitution, unless…”

Comelec Chairman George Garcia previously said that the poll body will not accept substitutions due to withdrawal after October 8, the last day of filing of COC for the national and local posts. 

Substitution, however, is still allowed after the COC filing deadline until November 15, 2024 if the original aspirant dies or was disqualified.

The substitute must share the same family name or must belong to the same political party.
