MANILA, Philippines — Less than half of Senate aspirants submitted registration forms for their social media accounts to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) four days before its deadline.

Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco on Monday said that 27 out of 66 Senate hopefuls on the ballot submitted their forms.

On the other hand, most of the party-list groups, or 119 out of 156, submitted these requirements, while 4,500 aspirants from local posts already did so.

Social media account registration is part of Comelec’s initiative to regulate digital election campaigning.

Social media accounts to be used by aspirants for campaigning purposes must be submitted before Dec. 13.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said there will be no deadline extension.

“If you don’t want your posts or platforms to be deleted, register your social media accounts,” he said in Filipino at the sidelines of the National Convention of Election Officers in Pasay City last month.
