Election gun ban violators reach 250; 255 firearms seized – PNP

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of gun ban violators so far has reached 250, according to data released by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday.

The police force, together with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) through the National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC), previously reported 225 violators apprehended during the first week of the gun ban, from Jan. 12 to 18.

Twenty-five more civilians were arrested from Jan. 19 to 20, PNP data showed.

It also showed that the National Capital Region (NCR) and Central Luzon (Region 3) had the highest number of violators, with 65 individuals each. This was followed by Central Visayas (Region 7) with 31 violators and Calabarzon (Region 4A) with 17, as of 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Furthermore, the police force reported confiscating 255 firearms due to the ban. Of these, 115 were revolvers, 71 were pistols, six were shotguns, six were explosives, one was a class-A firearm, one was a rifle, and 55 were other types of firearms.

The region with the most firearms seized was the NCR with 67 guns confiscated. This was followed by 64 guns seized in Central Luzon and 31 in Central Visayas.

At a press conference in Camp Crame on Tuesday, PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Rudolf Tuaño reminded the public that the gun ban suspends all permits to carry firearms outside residence or PTCFOR.

The PNP also reported conducting 60,778 Comelec checkpoints since the election period began on January 12 for the 2025 polls.
