No politics in distribution of voter’s information sheet – Comelec

MANILA, Philippines — There will be “no politics” involved in the distribution of voter’s information sheets (VIS) across the country, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Friday.
During the inspection of the printing of VIS at the satellite office of National Printing Office in Meycauayan City, Bulacan, Garcia said that local Comelec officers will be the ones to distribute the VIS, and not candidates or barangay officials.
“Mayroon po tayong cinreate na special task force na magsisigurado na ang bawat voter’s information sheet ay sadyang matatanggap ng mga kababayan natin na botante natin. At hindi ito mapopolitika na maaaring hindi idistribute o maaaring i-distribute lamang sa mga kapanalig ng ilang politiko,” Garcia said in an interview.
(We created a special task force that will ensure that every Filipino voter will receive a voter’s information sheet. And there will be no politics that may purposely stop its distribution that it will only be distributed to selected supporters of candidates.)
Garcia said that politicians or local or national candidates will have a hard time reproducing the VIS upon distribution.
“Mukhang napakahirap ireproduce yan sapagkat pagkatanggap na pagkatanggap ng mga local Comelec namin, ay agad na ididistribute yan ng mga local Comelec natin sapagkat binigyan lang namin sila ng isang buwan sa kanilang jurisdiction na maidistribute ang lahat ng voter’s information sheet,” Garcia answered if it is possible to reproduce the VIS to highlight a candidate’s name to use for their campaign.
(It might be difficult to reproduce it because once the local Comelec [officers] receive this, they will immediately distribute it because they are only given one month under their jurisdiction to distribute the voter’s information sheet.)
Garcia reiterated that every registered Filipino voter across the country will receive one VIS.
The four-page sheet contains the name and address of the voter, their polling precinct number, voting instructions and reminders, and the names of local and national candidates, and party-list groups.
He then called on the voters to use the VIS as their “kodigo” or cheat sheet that will serve as their guide when casting their vote.
The printing of the VIS will be completed by the end of March 2025 and will be distributed from April 1 to April 30, 2025.
