Comelec: 3,259 aspiring candidates file COC on day 1

A total 3,259 aspiring candidates have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for various seats in the 2025 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

MANILA, Philippines — A total 3,259 aspiring candidates have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for various seats in the 2025 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

Based on the poll body’s preliminary report on the number of aspirants as of 7:30 p.m., Oct. 1, 80.15 percent or 2,612 of the total aspirants are male; while only 647 or 19.85 percent are female.

For the national elections, 17 have already filed their COCs for senator, while 15 have filed for party-list groups.

In terms of local elections, 69 have filed their COCs for House of Representatives member; 16 for governor; 12 for vice governor; 129 for Sangguniang Panlalawigan member; 325 for mayor; 299 for vice mayors; and 2,392 for Sangguniang Panlungsod member.
