Classes suspended in Iloilo City to give way to local campaigning
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — In-person classes in all private and public schools in the City Proper District here were canceled starting at noon today, March 28.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said this would allow candidates to use the streets for their rallies to open the start of the local campaign period.
The mayor advised schools to shift to alternative instruction modes or online learning.
In Iloilo City, Team Uswag’s kick-off rally will take place today at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand at 4 p.m. Friday.

The rally will be led by Treñas, whose daughter Raisa is the mayoralty candidate alongside incumbent Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, who is running for reelection.
Raisa is running against independent candidate Roland Magahin, former president of the Iloilo Terminal Market Vendors Association.
On the other hand, the start of the campaign rally of Team Sulong Gugma will start with a Mass at the Arevalo Church.
Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will be present at the kickoff event before the candidates visit barangays in Iloilo City.
Team Sulong Gugma does not have a candidate for mayor.
