Day 3 of COC filing: More reelectionists, new faces show up

New faces and more aspirants seeking reelection showed up on the third day of filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 midterm elections.

MANILA, Philippines — New faces and more aspirants seeking reelection showed up on the third day of filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 midterm elections.

More senatorial reelectionists lodged their COCs at the Manila Hotel Tent on Thursday such as incumbent senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa who finalized his Senate reelection bid. Senator Christopher “Bong” Go also filed his COC for senator.

Dela Rosa and Go are both allies of then president Rodrigo Duterte.

Actor Phillip Salvador filed his COC for senator. He tried to run for a vice governor post in Bulacan in the 2016 elections but he was excluded from the final list of voters in the province just days before the polls.

Dela Rosa, Go, and Salvador  were previously endorsed by Partido Demokratiko Pilipino, the political party led by the former president.

Cancer-stricken Dr. Willie Ong filed his COC for senator through his wife, Dra. Liza Ong. Dr. Willie ran as vice president in the 2022 elections, alongside his presidential running mate former Manila City mayor Isko Moreno.

Meanwhile, Brian Poe Llamanzares, the son of Senator Grace Poe, is seeking a House seat as the first nominee of FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.) Panday Bayanihan party-list. Senator Grace Poe said that she believes in the capabilities of her son to run for public office.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo filed their COCs for their second term. Lacuna said on Thursday that Isko Moreno informed the incumbent mayor of his plans to run for mayor in the city.

As the third day of filing of COC concluded, Commission on Elections Chairman George Garcia said that no untoward incident was recorded in all COC filing sites across the country.

“Wala na kahit na anong insidente ng karahasan, violence, irregularity or disturbance sa lahat ng sites natin ng filing and therefore patuloy po itong generally peaceful,” Garcia said in a press briefing.

(There were no incidents of violence, irregularity or disturbance in all of our filing sites and therefore, the COC filing continues to be generally peaceful.)
